Sojourners Present Flags At Motorcycle Ride For Vermont VA Hospital Veterans

In August, Green Mountain Chapter 527 and John Stark Camp participated in the Third Annual Masonic Motorcycle Ride for VA Hospital Veterans sponsored by Pulaski Lodge # 58 of Wells River. At the Vermont Veterans National Cemetery in Randolph Center The Chapter and Camp Flag Team greeted some forty-seven riders as they assembled around the circle of flags at the cemetery entrance. Past President Cal Keyler introduced the team which was outfitted in colonial uniforms and Past President Tom MacPhee presented the “toast to the flag” followed by the Pledge of Allegiance”. The thirteen hundred dollars that was raised that day was added to approximately $300.00 in Veterans phone cards and many more gifts, such as toiletry items, socks, and spending money, for the veterans. These were to be presented to Brother Tuffy Doyle, The Masonic Service Representative for Vermont at the VA Hospital.

This was the third year that this important event has been sponsored by Pulaski Lodge # 58 and was by far the largest and most successful. It was the first time National Sojourners was invited to participate. Beginning at P&H Stop at Exit 17 on I-91, the riders proceeded to the VA Hospital in White River where they deposited gifts and funds. Then it was on to the Viet Nam Memorial at Sharon on I-89 and then to Randolph Center and the National Cemetery for the concluding ceremony at the circle of flags.
We all thank Brothers Jim Stevens, Glenn Dow and Lee Dion for their work on such a worthwhile project and for inviting our team to be a part of it.
